Things aren’t as easy as they used to be; Thai girls are starting to get a little picky! Years ago Thai girls weren’t connected to Western men unless they met them in person. But thanks to dating sites and social media sites like Facebook, Thai girls have the opportunity to talk to 10X more Western men then every before. And it’s hard to compete with “online guys” since they’re only featuring their most flattering pictures from 10 years ago. In many ways the Thai girl is doing herself a disservice by becoming picky because in reality nobody who looks like a movie star is coming here to sweep them off their feet anytime soon. But realistically your appearance needs to be up to par if you want to attract a young and pretty girl. It doesn’t matter if you’re born good looking, but you do have to work with what you have.

Another word to the wise – I am hearing and seeing more and more times when Gogo girls are actually turning down customers with excuses. Some establishments are more lax on this kind of thing than others. But the point is if you’re a sloppy mess you might not be able to get a pretty dancer even if you’re willing to pay top dollar. That’s right, even if you’re willing to pay for it, your attire will impact the quality of the girls you’ll have a shot at. I know this is Thailand and it’s hot outside, I’m not asking you to rock a tux. But for heaven’s sake, don’t you want these girls to find you appealing on some level?

Some guys may be fine in this category while some may only think they’re fine, and others probably realize that they need some help. Inevitably someone will tell me that it’s lame or even gay of me to do a style piece, but if it’s gay to try and attract hotter women, then I guess I’m flaming.

Hair, nails, teeth

Barbers are 80 baht; please get yourself a haircut and take care of any odd neck hair, ear hair, and nose hair that we all have. For facial hair, a clean shave always works, but so does a 5:00 Shadow look. Body hair is a different story for a different day and boy we’ve all had moments of disgust with it; just put some sort of effort into trimming yourself up so that you’re not “King Kong,” which is the actual term I’ve heard Thai ladies use for hairy guys.
Women from all over the world hate when a man’s nails aren’t trimmed down (toes and fingers).

Teeth whitening is very cheap in Thailand; actually so is any type of cosmetic dental work. Smiling is so crucially important with Thai women that your teeth need to be as presentable as possible. Also whiskey is not mouth wash, so bring gum or breath mints with you.

Having a playful accessory is a good idea because it’s like your built in conversation piece. This could be a necklace, a funky bracelet, or crazy sunglasses. I’m not telling you to go overboard; just one accessory is good enough to give a girl something to grab a hold of.

Age is going to Impact what you look best it and what you can get away with. So I’ll give you some general guidelines and you can adapt them to your age. Age appropriate dress code is important.

Polo shirts– I think this is should be the staple item for guys. You want to get mainly solid color polo’s. They’re versatile so you can wear them on a lunch date, and you can wear them to dinner with jeans.

V-necks- We all basically look like crap with a regular over-sized printed t-shirt on. There I said it; it’s sad but true. Change it up just a bit to a nice v-neck though and all of a sudden you’re big pimpin’

Button downs – It’s too hot to wear long sleeve button downs most of the time, but the ones light and breathable ones work and they look great with the sleeves rolled up. Don’t assume that your idea of rolling sleeves up works, YouTube “how to roll up your sleeves” for a tutorial so you don’t look sloppy. I don’t love short sleeve button downs and I think you can do better; the Hawaiian ones or the Tommy Bahamas ones are simply 2000 and late.

Shorts – Stick to solid color blue and tan khaki shorts and make sure they don’t have a ton of pockets.

Jeans – Nothing is more important than a pair of jeans that fits well. A good pair can last you for many years, so be picky. Luckily the Thai guys have the market cornered on “skinny jeans” so you can get a looser fitting style, but we’re not talking Bone Thugs N Harmony video loose, just loose enough so they’re comfortable. They should fit properly cover the very top part of your shoe so socks aren’t visible.

Slacks- There is no place for slacks for men under 40 even in any nightlife scenario, but I’ve seen some older guys flossing with the Clooney look at night and doing well with the ladies. The “Clooney” consists of dress slacks (usually khaki color, sometimes blue), with a thin white button down shirt sleeves rolled up. A dressy polo (the ones with the fancy material) will work too, but tucked in for this look of course.

Shoes – If you’re wearing shoes, like actual shoes, you must match your belt and your shoes up. Also match your socks with your shoes. Sandals aren’t for a date, a night club, or even a Gogo in my opinion. You can pull it off I guess if they’re nice and you’re wearing jeans, but I’d rather go for shoes. Under 40 you can wear tennis shoes with jeans even at night, after all this is Thailand!

Use your judgment and common sense, obviously I’m not telling you to wear dress slacks to lunch and this isn’t a comprehensive guide. However it’s a good starting point and it’s something to read before hitting a day of bargain shopping to get some new threads to spruce up your wardrobe.
